International family and systemic psychotherapy organisations we have links with

European Family Therapy Association (EFTA)

EFTA promotes family therapy and systemic practice across Europe. AFSP members Shan Tate and Ged Smith are our representatives at EFTA, attending regular meetings.

On the EFTA website, you can find resources, including webinars and details of upcoming events. The association also has a directory of its member associations, which is a useful tool for anyone looking to collaborate.

EFTA has a Solidarity Fund to enable members of smaller national organisations who are developing family therapy to participate in European professional networks, training and conferences. Contact EFTA for more details.

International Family Therapy Association (IFTA)

IFTA provides international conferences and publications to promote, strengthen and improve the quality of family therapy and relationships within families and to promote wellbeing.

Under the auspices of IFTA, the International Accreditation Commission for Systemic Therapy Education (IACSTE) focuses on the development and implementation of quality standards for programmes that provide systemic therapy education and training around the world.

Family Therapy Association of Ireland (FTAI)

FTAI is the professional organisation which represents family therapy and therapists in Ireland.

We have a memorandum of understanding with FTAI. It allows qualified family and systemic psychotherapists to register easily in both the UK and Ireland with FTAI and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT)

AAMFT is a professional association representing the interests of more than 50,000 marriage and family therapists throughout the United States, Canada and beyond North America.

AFSP members get free, full access to AAMFT’s Journal of Marital and Family Therapy.

Australian Association of Family Therapy (AAFT)

AAFT is dedicated to supporting practitioners in the family therapy field, students and families, and furthering development of family therapy across Australia and New Zealand.

AFSP members get free, full access to AAFT’s Australian and New Zealand Journal of Family Therapy.

Malaysian Marriage and Family Therapy Association (MyMFT)

(Pertubuhan Terapi Perkahwinan Dan Keluarga Malaysia)

MyMFT is Malaysia’s association of professionals and practitioners who have an interest in collaborative learning and delivering mental health services to children, couples and families.

Asian Academy of Family Therapy (AAFT)

AAFT is a non-profit organisation of leading family therapy educators, clinicians, policy makers, researchers and social scientists. They’re committed to enhancing systemic thinking and the practice of family therapy in different social and clinical contexts in Asia.

Canadian Association for Couple and Family Therapy (CACFT)

(L’Association Canadienne pour la Thérapie Conjugale et Familiale – ACTCF)

CACFT promotes the profession and practice of couple, marriage and family therapy in Canada.
